2016-17 EPL: Liverpool vs Chelsea Betting Tips

January 31, 2017 by Posted in Soccer Tips

It’s a clash for supremacy at Anfield on Wednesday morning (AEDT) – as Liverpool play host to table toppers Chelsea in an exciting English Premier League encounter. The result will be eagerly watched by the other title rivals who will be praying for a slip-up by Chelsea.

Season so far
Liverpool are in the midst of some terrible form having failed to win five of their last six matches in all competitions. This run has seen them slip up in the Premier League table to fourth position and crash out of the League Cup and FA Cup. They currently have 45 points from 22 games.

Chelsea on the other hand continue to dominate the Premier League. After a loss to London rivals Tottenham, they have won their last four matches in a row across competitions. They currently have 55 points from 22 games and lead their nearest rivals Arsenal by eight points.

Can Klopp find a way past the rut?
For a team that has looked unbeatable and wowed audiences with their style of play, Liverpool have found the turn of year go against them. The loss of Sadio Mane to AFCON cup was also a reason although the Senegal forward is back in town after finishing his international engagements.

What should cheer the Reds camp is Klopp’s superior record against the other big six teams – he lost just one of his 14 Premier League meetings winning six of them. They have already defeated them once in the season, a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge which was Antonio Conte’s first loss as Chelsea boss.

Prediction
This will be the 70th competitive meeting between these clubs in the Premier League era and the Reds will hope to do a season double for the first time since 2011-12. Chelsea are unbeaten in their last four EPL trips to Anfield and are undefeated in their last five away matches against Liverpool in all competitions. Back the Blues to continue that trend.

TIP: Chelsea to win – $3 at William Hill

Diego Costa has scored in 15 of his last 21 Premier League matches. His off-field tussle with Conte notwithstanding, the Spanish forward looks in cracking form and should continue that at Anfield. Back him to score any time in the match.

TIP: Diego Costa to score anytime – $2.50 at William Hill
