2016-17 EPL: Chelsea vs Man United Betting Tips
The home coming of Jose Mourinho will be on top of everyone’s mind this weekend as Chelsea host Manchester United at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 23rd October.
Season so far
Chelsea have regrouped after losses to Arsenal and Liverpool, winning their last two matches comfortably. Antonio Conte is still grappling with issues that wrecked the Blues’ campaign last year and will look to make a statement with a win this weekend. They currently sit fifth in the table with 16 points from eight games.
Manchester United will feel confident after the 4-1 win over Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night. Barring that, their campaign in Premier League has been stuttering to say the least. The Red Devils are currently seventh in the table with 14 points from eight games. Welcome home Jose!
Conte has switched to a three-defender formation at the back that seems to have improved their fortunes. They were in tatters after a woefully pathetic last season – which ended in the sacking of Mourinho. The Italian did a great job in picking up the pieces and this clash presents him the best chance to lay his mark.
Jose is still revered in this part of the world where so many supporters were sad to see him leave last season. They even put the blame on some of the non-performing stars but that’s where the admiration ends. Mourinho is still unsettled at Old Trafford and can ill-afford to lose this match – making this a clash to savor.
Prediction
Both managers love their ‘defensive-first’ approach and that could mean a low scoring match. David De Gea is in great form for the visitors while Thibaut Courtois is no less under the bar for the Blues. This makes punting on total goals being under 2.5 a worthy bet.
Tip: Total Goals Under 2.5 – $2.30 at Sportsbet
Diego Costa was one of those blamed to have under-performed for Mourinho in his final days at Chelsea. The Spanish International is back to his predatory best this season and looks eager to score once again.
