2016-17 EPL: Arsenal vs Chelsea vs Betting Tips

September 23, 2016 by Posted in Soccer Tips

CostaIt’s London derby time at the Emirates stadium this weekend as Arsenal play host to Chelsea in a Saturday evening clash on September 24.

Season so far

Chelsea have slipped to fifth position in the table after their 2-1 loss to Liverpool last weekend. They have ten points from five matches and would be eager to get back to winning ways.

Arsenal have started on a wrong footing by losing to Liverpool but have since bounced back to remain undefeated in the next four matches. They also have ten points from five matches and are fourth – one place above Chelsea.

Will Wenger miss the intensity of Mourinho?

Wenger has some bad memories of this derby in recent times – because of his altercations with Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese has since moved to Manchester United which means Wenger has one less thing to worry. But will he miss the intensity of that battle he had with Jose?

Antonio Conte is a typical Italian with his defensive style bringing solidity back to Stamford Bridge. Last week’s loss to Liverpool ruffled their feathers but it is still too early to call for any panic in the Blues’ camp. If anything, Conte would do well to summon some of Mourinho’s provocations!

Team news

Lucas Perez and Granit Xhaka have impressed for Arsenal in the EFL Cup and there is every possibility to be involved in the weekend. Wenger rates Perez highly and could be involved in some form.

The brilliance in the EFL Cup notwithstanding, Cesc Fabregas may still have to sit on the sidelines for the visitors. Watch out for Diego Costa who always has something to rant when he faces the Gunners.

Prediction

It’s a tough match for both teams coming on the heels of midweek action. Don’t be surprised if they settle for a draw. Odds of $3.30 for a draw at William Hill looks the recommended betting play.

Costa likes to put the sword to the Gunners, literally! Backing him to find the back of the net at odds of $2.50 at William Hill is not a bad punt. Same thing goes with Alexis Sanchez who at odds of $2.85 at William Hill should be a good punt for scoring any time.
