As we get ready to sing and welcome the new year, teams are battling out for supremacy in the KFC Big Bash League. The third round of matches get going from 29th of December and we look at what’s in store.

Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers at Etihad (Dec 29, 7:10pm local)

The Renegades had an emphatic start to the season thumping reigning Champions the Thunder by 49 runs. Aaron Finch led the charge with an aggressive start while the West Indian duo of Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine looked impressive with the ball. Overall, they looked settled and should be a tough team to beat.

The Scorchers too, had a great start brushing aside the Strikers by 48 runs but then lost to Sixers in their next match. Ian Bell is already looking like an impressive addition although the lack of runs from veterans Michael Klinger and Adam Voges is a concern. With the ball, Andrew Tye is looking as effective as ever but they need to be at their best to keep Renegades at bay.

TIP: Renegades to Win – $1.80 at William Hill

Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes at The Gabba (Dec 30, 6:10pm local)

Heat had a blazing start to BBL06 under Brendon McCullum as the Kiwi led them to a win over Strikers to start their season. The combination of McCullum, Lynn and Ross is an explosive one while Samuel Badree’s frugal spells could decide games in their favour.

Hurricanes had an indifferent start – they looked unbeatable in the 60-run win over Sixers but came crashing back to earth against the Stars next up, although they scored 188, the Stars managed to pass their total in the 17th over. Tim Paine continues to lead the batting charts while Clive Rose in impressing in the midst of an array of speedsters.

TIP: Hurricanes to Win – $2.07 at Sportsbet

Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Sixers (Dec 31, 6:40pm local)

Strikers had a poor start to the season losing both their matches – to Heat and Scorchers in contrasting manner. Their batting looks so much dependent on Ben Dunk, Brad Hodge and Travis Head while Chris Jordan started impressively although his wickets are coming at a high price.

Top-of-the-table as we speak, Sixers have lost only to Hurricanes. Sam Billings is looking a bargain buy while the form of Moises Henriques and Johan Botha is a boost. Sean Abbott continues to pick up wickets as the Sixers look to build up momentum.

TIP: Strikers to Win – $1.83 at Sportsbet

Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades (Jan 1, 6:10pm local)

The Stars looked in cracking form against the Hurricanes in their opening match where Rob Quiney, Luke Wright and Glenn Maxwell looked in good touch with the bat. Ben Hilfenhaus showed the virtue of experience and the Stars look well balanced ahead of this derby.

Renegades too started well by brushing aside the Thunder in their season opener. Aaron Finch and Dwayne Bravo look sumptuous with the bat while Bravo-Narine duo is looking too hot to handle with the ball.

TIP: Renegades to Win – Check back closer to game for price
