2016-17 Big Bash League Round 1 Betting Tips

December 19, 2016 by Posted in Cricket Tips

The wait is over and the biggest sports extravaganza down under is back. The KFC Big Bash 2016-17 is just round the corner and not even the international action can steal the limelight surrounding it. Without much ado, we get into looking at what’s in store for the Round 1 action kick-starting from the 20th of December.

Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers (Dec 20, 7:40pm local)

Whoever decided the schedule deserves a pat! A great derby to kick-start another wonderful season at the Spotless Stadium. Beware, this fixture hasn’t gone on expected lines with the Sixers dominating historically winning seven of the eight encounters so far.

The Thunder have been the perennial whipping boys but regrouped last year to end up winners riding high on Usman Khawaja and all of his big performances. The team this year has a different look and a lot depends on the form of Eoin Morgan.

There will be a lot of Sixers’ players absent because of national duty which could hamper their start of the season. A lot will depend on how Moises Henriques and Johan Botha could rally the side in the absence of regulars.

TIP: Thunder to Win – 1.81 at Sportsbet

Adelaide Strikers vs Brirsbane Heat (Dec 21, 7:10pm local)

T20 veteran Brad Hodge is in the hot seat as the Strikers look to do better than reaching the knockouts – ala last season. The team looks pretty settled on paper although there’s too much pressure on Travis Head and Hodge.

One of the most promising teams of this campaign, Heat will generate a lot of eye-balls thanks to Brendon McCullum. With Chris Lynn too in the ranks, there’s anticipation that they could be the team to beat.

TIP: Heat to Win – 2.1 at Sportsbet

Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder (Dec 22, 7:40pm local)

Renegades have most of their bases covered and look confident ahead of this season. The presence of Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine gives them great bowling options as Aaron Finch and Cameron White look to rally the team with the bat. Chris Gayle will obviously be missed but they have enough firepower to cover up.

The Thunder has a Champion look to its squad but will be tested with its second game in three days. If they start their season well, they will be strong favourites to retain their title.

TIP: Renegades to Win – 1.81 Sportsbet

Sydney Sixers vs Hobart Hurricanes (Dec 23, 6:10pm local)

The Sixers will be rounding off the action in round one against Hurricanes – another encounter they enjoy. However, the Sixers will once again feel stretched because of international commitments.

There is pressure on Hurricanes to lift from their poor exploits of last season. Kumar Sangakkara will have to show more enterprise and Dan Christian will be a huge game-changer.

TIP: Hurricanes to Win – 1.8 at Sportsbet
