2016-17 Big Bash League Final Betting Tips
After having established itself as one of the most intriguing Twenty20 leagues in the world, Big Bash is coming to an end with the final slated on Saturday, January 28. The Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers have not just been the better teams this season but are two of the most successful franchises in BBL history.
The Scorchers topped the league standings with ten points and were one of the in-form teams coming into the final phase. With a side that reveled in team performances, the Scorchers were once again the team to beat this season.
Their top place in the table earned them a home semis and they brushed aside the Melbourne Stars with ease. A hostile spell of fast bowling by talisman Mitchell Johnson set the tone for them and Shaun Marsh led the chase with a solid half-century.
Take nothing away from the Sixers who have ended on the same points as the Scorchers. In the end, it was their heavy defeats early in the season that blotted their run rate which meant they lost a chance of home final. But, going by the way they are enjoying their travel this is not going to worry them.
In the semis too, they stunned Brisbane Heat at the Gabba through a super-over eliminator with Sean Abbott and Nathan Lyon leading the charge with the ball. Moises Henriques rediscovered his form at the right time which augurs well for them.
Both teams have a wonderful rivalry in the finals. For the Scorchers this is their fifth final having won twice and lost twice. The Sixers have qualified for the third time and have won and lost once each. Interestingly, both sides have played twice in the finals earlier splitting the results.
Sixers will look at Henriques and Abbott while Lyon has also picked up form coming into the final. For Scorchers, all eyes will once again be on Mitch Johnson while Ian Bell’s runs could be crucial.
There is hardly anything to separate the teams, even the players they are missing. The Sixers will be without Colin Munro while the Scorchers will be deprived of Shaun Marsh – both currently in New Zealand. The Scorchers’ have the firepower to win the title and I think they are the safer bet.
Mitch Johnson is such a value add to this Scorchers line-up that you won’t be blamed to wonder why it’s his debut BBL season. At odds of $3.75 (Ladbrokes), he looks a good bet to end up as top Scorchers bowler. Same goes with Lyon who at odds $4.50 (Ladbrokes) looks a safe punt.
TIP: Scorchers to win – $1.80 at Ladbrokes
