2016-17 A-League Semi Finals Betting Tips

After a very interesting elimination final weekend, we now turn our attention to the Semi Finals in the 2016-17 A-League Season. With two massive games in store, we preview and give our betting tips for both below.

Sydney FC vs Perth Glory (Saturday 7.50pm AEST)
Regular season Premiers Sydney FC will take on Perth Glory on Saturday night as Perth upset Melbourne City last weekend to book a place in the semi-final. Perth never looked like losing the elimination final after scoring two goals within 30 minutes then easily holding out the City attack.

It’ll be a much tougher test this week though, as they come up against Sydney, who were undefeated at home throughout the season and allowed a staggering four goals at their home ground all year. Those types of numbers are unheard of, especially in the A-League, and while it’s only a one game playoff and the winner advances, it’s extremely hard to look past the table leaders here.

Sydney have won the teams last 5 meetings and allowed Perth to score just 2 goals in that period. As much as I’d like to see a Cinderella story I can’t tip against Sydney here. If they get one goal on the board there’s a strong chance they will lock it up, and we know how hard they can be to score on.

Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar (Sunday 5pm AEST)
It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Victory at their best. Due to having locked up 2nd place on the ladder weeks out from the end of the season, the Victory were in cruise control for their last few games but will surely be back to their best this week after the weekend off. They’ll host the Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park on Sunday night after the Queenslanders overcame WSW in one of the most epic A-League matches in recent history.

Trailing 1-0 in the 55th minute, striker Jamie Maclaren founf the back of the net for the Roar before the two teams went into a stalemate at 1-1. That remained the score throughout extra time and the game was decided on a 6-5 penalty shootout with goalkeeper Jamie Young making the winning save.

Although they haven’t been as dominant as Sydney throughout the season, it’s hard to look past the Victory at home. Their 10-1-3 record at home is extremely impressive while Brisbane weren’t the best travelling team with a 4-5-5 away record. Melbourne Victory to win seems the safe bet here.
