The 2016-17 A-League season continues this weekend and we take a look at the best value matches to produce our Round 20 Multi of the Week.
To kick things off we will be taking what we believe is the best value of the weekend and that is the Newcastle Jets to beat Adelaide United. The Jets will enter the match on the back of a short rest and having to travel to Adelaide but they are clearly the classier side. The Reds suffered an embarrassing 5-0 loss in their last start and we can’t see them turning it around within the space of a week. The side looked lethargic and their defence wasn’t desperate. They have given up on their season and rightfully so.
In the second leg of our multi we will be backing Melbourne City to earn a point on the road against Wellington Phoenix. City had a disastrous week which started with their loss against the Victory. The side blew a 1-0 lead and had nine players suspended or injured for their match against the Roar. They were able to overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit to earn a competition point and that would be a relief for the team that is still pushing for a top three spot and home semi-final. The Phoenix lost on the road against Sydney FC and have proven they struggle to find a performance to beat one of the top sides in the league.
In our third leg we will be backing Sydney FC to continue their unbeaten run and earn a victory against crosstown rivals the Western Sydney Wanderers. The Sky Blues weren’t really threatened on the weekend against the Phoenix and they put three past their opponents. The side conceded the one goal just prior to halftime but they still remain by far the best defensive team in the competition. The Wanderers had all the possession and chances but still suffered an embarrassing loss to the Mariners on the weekend. The side wasn’t able to capitalise on their chances and we don’t believe they will be able to crack the Sky Blues defence.
In our last leg we are predicting Melbourne Victory to end the three game winning streak of the Central Coast Mariners. It has been the best run for the Central Coast in three years and they had the benefit of some luck along the way. The Victory side was involved in a sluggish match against the Jets on Monday night and they will be able to have a full weeks rest before this contest. The side is sitting in second position on the ladder and their attack will be too strong and punish the Mariners who have conceded the most goals in the past two season.
