ALeague Grand Final
The A-League’s fiercest rivalry will get another epic instalment this weekend as Sydney FC host Melbourne Victory in the 2016-17 Grand Final on Sunday. It will be the 42nd time the two teams have squared off and the 3rd in a Grand Final, with the teams splitting the first two meetings.

Melbourne Victory were able to hold off the Brisbane Roar last weekend after striker Bersat Berisha put them 1-0 up in the 70th minute with an athletic header. Sydney on the other hand, cruised into the Grand Final with a dominant display over Perth Glory 3-0 display over Perth Glory in the semi.

While the two teams have been the standouts of the year, Sydney FC, in particular have had one of the most dominant seasons in A-League history, and a title would only be a fitting jewel in their regular season crown. Their 20 wins, +43 goal difference and 12 goals against in the regular season are all A-League records but the beauty of the Australian domestic competition is that it all comes down to one night.

Melbourne Victory have arguably been the most dominant team in the A-Leagues 12-year span. In that time they have lifted the trophy three times, tied with Brisbane Roar for the most, and will be looking to become sole leaders with a fourth title here.

The forward trio of Bersat Berisha, James Troisi and Marco Rojas looks to be the key if Melbourne Victory were to slay the Sydney FC giants on Sunday night. They have combined for 36 goals on the year so far and will have to do what very few teams have done this year, score at Allianz Stadium.

TIP: Marco Rojas to score anytime – $5 at Sportsbet

Sydney FC have allowed just 4 goals through 14 games this season at Allianz, which could nearly be a record not just in A-League history but in world football. Their defence has been the mainstay for the team but the class up front can’t be overlooked. Spearheaded by the midfield quartet of Filip Holosko, Josh Brillante, Alex Brosque and 2016-17 Johnny Warren Medal winner Milos Ninkovic, they are usually good for the one goal they need to win 90% of games.

As good as the Sky Blues have been this year, in a one game playoff with so much on the line, anything can happen. For that reason I just can’t justify backing them at low odds of just $1.75 to win and $1.40 to lift the trophy. Let’s hope that Melbourne Victory are on offensively and can lift their fourth title.

TIP: Melbourne Victory to lift the trophy – $3 at Ladbrokes
