2016-17 A-League Elimination Finals Betting Tips

The 2016-17 A-League season has finally wound down and now it’s time for finals. With the top two teams in Sydney and Melbourne Victory having the week off, teams three-six will play off in the elimination finals this weekend. See our preview and tips for both games below.

Brisbane Roar vs Western Sydney Wanderers (Friday, 7.50pm AEST)
The Roar will host the Wanderers in the first elimination final on Friday night. Brisbane have been a force at Suncorp Stadium this year, losing just 2 games throughout the regular season while the Wanderers have just a 4-5-4 away record. Jamie Maclaren will be the barometer for the Roar, with the striker currently sitting third on the goal scorers table with 15, if the supply is good and he has a good game in general the Roar usually win.

On the other side of the ball, it’s been the Wanderers defence that has got the job done for them so far this year. With just 35 goals for throughout the regular season, it’s a marvel they even made the finals, but their defence was stingy and they had 12 draws on the season, the most of any team. Centre back Robbie Cornthwaite has been a rock all year and will need to be Friday night against a dynamic Brisbane attack.
Brisbane seem to have too much firepower for the Wanderers here. Western Sydney will want to keep it a low scoring game but I can’t see that happening at Suncorp Stadium.

Melbourne City vs Perth Glory (Saturday, 7pm AEST)
Perth will make the trip to Melbourne to play City on Saturday night after failing to make up the five goal deficit in the final round which would have saw them leap frog their opponents and host the game. Nevertheless, Perth claimed victory over the Citizens in a high scoring 5-4 match in Round 27, but we are expecting this one to be played in a little less free flowing fashion.

Both teams were going all out with nothing to lose towards the end of the match, searching for wins or extra goals that would have improved their ladder positioning. Tim Cahill has found some form late in the season with 3 goals in his last 2 matches while Perth striker Andy Keogh is in dangerous form.
While the game should be played with a little more caution, these two teams are attacking in nature and we expect it to be another relatively high scoring match.
