2015 US Open Men’s Preview and Tips
The Grand Slam calendar moves to the final leg as the US Open starts at Flushing Meadows, New York from August 31st. With an array of stars vying for top honors, the next two weeks will enthral tennis fans across the world.
The Men’s side will have the usual suspects with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray trying to pocket the final Slam of the year. As usual, the surprise factor will be provided by Stanislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Rafael Nadal.
The US Open is not a happy ground for the world number one Djokovic with his lone title coming in 2011. He has reached the finals of all the Slams this year and missed out only at the French Open. His build-up this year however, is not great with the Serb falling in both the finals at Montreal and Cincinnati Masters. At odds of $2.20 at Sportsbet, Djoker is the top draw with the betting market.
Federer may have turned 34 but has not lost any of his grace. He served a reminder of his skills with a win at Cincinnati. But, question marks still hang around his capability to snatch the crown. Odds of $5.00 at Sportsbet put him as the second favorite, but it would surprise even his ardent supporters if he manages to go all the way.
Murray would be eager to prove his credentials at the place of his first Grand Slam title. Odds of $5.50 at Sportsbet put his chances almost on par with Federer, but it would be a herculean task for the Scot to lift the title. The draw hasn’t been kind to him either.
Of the rest, French Open Champion Wawrinka looks the best bet to beat anyone on his day. At odds of $15 at Sportsbet, he is not a rank bad choice to put your money on. Nadal’s poor form puts him further down the pecking order at $26 and it would take a very brave heart to punt on the Spaniard. Same is the case with defending champion Marin Cilic who is rated a $51 shot.
For the Aussies, the interest would be in the hugely talented and equally volatile Nick Kyrgios, who you can back at the big odds of $151 at Sportsbet. He brings a lot of recent controversies to the court along with his powerful game. It would, however, be very difficult for him to go past the first round with Murray being his first opponent.
It should be a great fortnight of tennis, but it’s tough to see anyone stopping Djokovic from claiming yet another Grand Slam title!
