2015-16 FA Cup Final: Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips
The oldest tournament in the world, the FA Cup, will find the winner of its 2015-16 edition when Manchester United and Crystal Palace battle it out at the Wembley stadium early Sunday morning.
The FA Cup may have lost some of its shine over the years but it is still a special trophy to claim. While United will be aiming for a record-equaling 12th title, Palace is itching to lift the trophy and break its duck.
United had the luck of draw when they faced lower league teams in the initial rounds. Wins over Sheffield United, Derby County and Shrewsbury Town were expected. However, facing West Ham United in the sixth round was their first challenge, which required a replay, while Everton were brushed aside in the semi-final courtesy of a very late goal.
Having finished fifth in the Premier League after a topsy-turvy season, this is the only chance for United to lift silverware. With Louis Van Gaal under severe pressure, you can expect the Red Devils to go all out for a win to appease their disgruntled fans.
Palace, on the other hand, had to move past seasoned opponents to reach the finals. Upset wins over Southampton, Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur in the initial rounds were big wins and will give the side a lot of confidence heading into this contest. They then overcame Reading in the sixth round and Watford in the semi-finals. The tightly contested semis could have gone either way but a second-half Connor Wickham goal was enough to land Palace a finals berth.
United had a very dour season but their performance but they were able to how drastic improvement towards the end of the year and were unfortunate to miss out on a sport in the Champions League next season. On the other hand, Palace’s form entered a downward spiral after Christmas and they were nearly pulled into the relegation battle. On paper, this looks a David versus Goliath battle. The two teams have met twice already this season in the Premier League. While the first fixture at Selhurst Park ended in a tame 0-0 draw, United won the reverse fixture at Old Trafford 2-0.
It is United all the way in the betting markets as everyone expects them to win this tie. Whilst odds of 1.73 with William Hill for Manchester United to win isn’t a great return, Palace has struggled to score against United with just one goal in their last six matches which suggests this will be a clear victory for United.
Can United salvage their season with a victory? Or will it be the last time Van Gaal is in charge of the Red Devils?
