Old rivals will try to recreate the magic of the past when Manchester United welcome arch rivals Arsenal to Old Trafford for English Premier League matchday 27 on Sunday, February 28.

No words can actually describe the pressure that United manager Louis Van Gaal is currently going through. Every eye is scrutinizing the team’s performance on a daily basis and the Dutch veteran must be feeling the weight of the world. Of course, his team has done nothing to quash the critics limping with insipid displays and languishing in fifth place – almost guaranteed on missing the top four.

Progression in FA Cup and Europa League during this week may have eased some pressure, although the wins are against minnows. Though the atmosphere at Old Trafford is expected to improve after these victories, there is no hiding the fact that this has been a very poor season for Manchester United.

Injuries have taken a toll on Van Gaal’s squad who will be missing his regular strikers Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial apart from the regular absentees at the back. David De Gea and Chris Smalling are expected to be fit and the euphoria around teenage striker Marcus Rashford may see him keep his starting place.

Arsenal will enter the match on the back of a Champions League loss to Barcelona with their hopes of European progression hanging in the balance. The Gunners are within earshot of the leaders in the Premier League and have a better shot at the title. Any more slip-ups will be difficult to fathom, with both Leicester and Tottenham showing incredible consistency.

Arsene Wenger will certainly be nostalgic coming to the stomping ground of his old foe Sir Alex Ferguson but has more pressing concerns to answer. Arsenal struggled to dominate big teams although his team shred United to pieces with a 3-0 comprehensive win in the reverse fixture at the Emirates.

Wenger will not be able to summon Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who injured his knee against Barcelona. The sight of former Manchester United academy graduate Danny Welbeck on the substitute bench is a boost as he was able to score the winner as a substitute against the Foxes. Alexis Sanchez is also back to full fitness and will boost the chances for the visitors.

The injury pile-up and the fluctuating form of United would mean that Arsenal start this game as strong favourites. Although they have lost on six of their last eight visits to Old Trafford, this is a very good chance for them to correct that record.
