NRL 2014 – Season Predictions

It’s not long until the 2014 NRL season kicks off so we’ll take a look at of our top picks and value picks on offer in the long term betting markets. We’ll revisit this article at the end of the season to see just how accurate (or inaccurate!) we were! All odds are with Sportsbet.com.au and are correct at the time of publication.

Sonny Bill

Premiership

It’s no surprise to see the Roosters ($5), Rabbitohs ($6.50), Sea Eagles ($7.00) and Storm ($7.50) start the year as favourites. All four teams were excellent last season and will be right up there come finals time. We are predicting a Manly V Souths grand final and are tipping the Rabbitohs to get up at $6.50. The Manly Souths quinella is paying $17.

Best value option is the Cowboys at $14. JT is always at his best towards the end of the season and if the refs don’t cost them a finals win for the THIRD year in a row, they are in with a big chance to win.

Dally M Medal

Always tough to predict before the season starts, we like Daly Cherry-Evans ($9) and Sonny Bill ($10). Both are players that can single-handedly turn a game and get plenty of recognition from the guys handing out the votes.

As a value pick we like Adam Reynolds at $21. This guy is already a superstar of the game and if the selectors have half a brain, he’ll be pulling on a Blues jumper for the first time this year.

Season Wins – Over/Under

There are a couple of good looking options in this market. Our favourites include the Cowboys over 13.5 ($1.87), Broncos over 11.5 ($1.83), Penrith over 10.5 ($1.78) and Tigers under 7.5 (1.80).

State of Origin

We’re Queenslanders, so it doesn’t feel right to say this, but New South Wales are very good value for money at $2.30 (pending a few changes to their squad)! If you were putting any money on Origin at this time of the year it would have to be with the Blues. As we said earlier, we think Reynolds should be playing Origin and could prove the difference if he does.

Other Markets

Other markets that took our interest included Jarryd Hayne to score more than 9.5 tries at $1.87. The only question with this market is whether or not his knees hold up and he can stay injury free. An injury-free Hayne will have 10+ tries halfway through the season!

Let us know what you think of our predictions and let us know what your predictions for the 2014 NRL season are! We can’t wait to check this out at the end of the season to see how we went! Our AFL predictions are up now!
