Randwick Racing: 2017 All Aged Betting Tips
The Group 1 All Aged Stakes is one of tow Group 1’s at Royal Randwick this weekend and sees a very competitive field of 10 runners line up.
The Randwick track is currently rated a Heavy 9 and despite a bit of clear weather forecast in the lead up to Saturday I doubt we’ll see any significant upgrade.
There really doesn’t look to be a whole lot of speed in the race outside of Jungle Edge who should get things his own way. Le Romain will come across from barrier 10 to likely sit outside the leader, while English will get the run of the race just off the leaders. Tivaci, Japonisme, Divine Prophet and Redkirk Warrior can sit midfield, with Famous Seamus, Voodoo Lad and McCreery near the rear.
English comes up favourite for the race after a super run to finish 2nd in the TJ Smith behind Chautauqua. She won this race last year and if it turns into a sit and sprint it will only suit her more. She’s set to get a great run behind the leaders and I see absolutely no excuses for her here. My query is her inconsistency at times, as she struggles to put two good runs together. I fear she may have peaked in the TJ and I just can’t jump in at the price given those concerns.
That leaves second favourite Le Romain who was disappointing in the Doncaster, though he didn’t get any luck at a crucial time. His form prior to that was exceptional with two wins and a 2nd to Winx. I think the drop back to 1400m probably suits him and we know he handles the wet tracks. From barrier 10 I think he’ll slide across in what looks a race lacking tempo. He has a very high cruising speed so if he gets a break on English she may struggle to run him down. Happiy to back him at $4.20.
The value could be Tivaci who comes off two good runs in the Newmarket and TJ Smith. He might be better on firmer ground but he might also be looking for the extra trip at this stage. With a better run in transit here he can be in the finish.
Outside of those it could be worth including Jungle Edge given the lack of tempo in the race and the Heavy track. He’s won 4 from 7 on Heavy ground including a 2L win last start in Group 3 company over 1200m. He’s won over this distance before and could take some catching, but whether he is up to WFA Group 1 level is the query.
McCreery is worth including, as is Voodoo Lad, while I’ll take on Redkird Warrior today on the wet ground.
1st LE ROMAIN
3rd JUNGLE EDGE
