Cricket Betting: West Indies vs Pakistan Test Series Preview
Pakistan look to give finishing touches to their Caribbean tour when they take on West Indies in a three-match Test series. The first Test will be played at the Sabina Park, Kingston from Friday, April 21st.
Can the Windies Salvage Pride?
West Indies are already a spent force in Test cricket and that has been the story for the past decade and half. They played Pakistan in the UAE in a three-match series in October and did manage to win a Test. But with no consistency in their game, that’s a mere token of flashiness to say the least.
Not that they do not have talent within their ranks. Kraigg Brathwaite’s batting suits the longer format to the ‘T’ and is perhaps their biggest hope. Vishaul Singh and Shimron Hetmyer have earned their spots with runs in the warm-up game.
Bowling will revolve around the pace of Alzarri Joseph and Shannon Gabriel while Devendra Bishoo will be their lone spin hope.
For Pakistan, it will be a great chance to give a perfect send-off to Misbah-Ul-Haq and Younis Khan. The two veterans will leave gaping holes in their middle-order but that’s a discussion for some other time.
Opening remains a problem for Pakistan who will depend largely on the trio of Younis, Misbah and Azhar Ali to keep the top-order intact. The injury to Hasan Ali notwithstanding, they have a very good mix of pace and spin resources which should start them as favorites.
West Indies have played 49 Tests in total against Pakistan winning 16 and losing 18. At home, the record makes more comfortable reading with 11 wins and five losses in 23 matches. Although their performances degenerated considerably in the recent decade, against Pakistan they have won two out of five matches played.
Pakistan winning the series is a heavily loaded punt in the market with most booking houses believing it to be a foregone conclusion. Odds being offered on Pakistan’s series win are $1.29 (Ladbrokes). A better punt is on betting a 2-1 score in favor of Pakistan which is being offered at odds of $6.50 (Ladbrokes).
In an era of flamboyance, Brathwaite’s batting is a refreshing difference. His doughtiness often saves the day for West Indies. Especially in the first Test when his batting could turn out to be crucial in West Indies’ attempts in keeping Pakistan at bay. Back him to be West Indies’ best batsman at odds of $4.50 (Ladbrokes).
