2016-17 EPL: Manchester City vs Liverpool Betting Tips
Contrasting fortunes have kept Manchester City and Liverpool on tenterhooks so far in the English Premier League. The Citizens are 10 points adrift of leaders Chelsea but are still in with a chance for the title. Liverpool are one point adrift of their opponents having played a game extra but have the onus of fighting for Champions League qualification places.
Season so far
Pep Guardiola’s fanfare arrival at the Etihad looks a memory of distant past as his side’s hopes are clinically dismantled. Champions League exit at the hands of Monaco will surely hurt even as their chances of winning the Premier League move from ‘possible’ to ‘improbable’ zone. With 56 points they are third in the table and 10 points off the pace from Chelsea.
Liverpool aren’t in any different zone. After a dream start to their Premier League campaign, the Reds saw 2017 arrive with a string of losses. Their last match win against Burnley was a welcome change as Jurgen Klopp prods his team back to winning ways. At 55 points, they are fourth in the table but have played one match more than City and two matches more than closest competitors Arsenal and Manchester United.
A must-win for both sides!
Their relative positions in the table make this a virtual six-pointer for the sides. City have dropped points in their last Premier League match against Stoke and would be desperate for full points. Coming on the heels of their high profile exit from Europe, the Citizens can ill-afford another slip-up.
For Klopp and Liverpool, Champions League qualification remains the sole objective now that they have crashed out of all other competitions. With teams breathing down its neck, it won’t be easy for the Reds though. However, the biggest positive for Liverpool is their exemplary record under Klopp against top four teams.
Liverpool have scored the most goals so far in the League this season while conceding more than any in the top seven. It will take a brave heart in backing them for a clean sheet. City aren’t any different and so backing both sides to score at odds of $1.57 (bet365) looks a prudent punt.
City have a poor recent record against Liverpool having lost five of their last six Premier League matches. Also, Liverpool are unbeaten in their nine games against sides currently in the top six of the Premier League this season. Back them to come up with a draw at odds of $3.75 (bet365).
Sergio Aguero loves playing the Reds and has scored against them in all four of his games at the Etihad. Back him to score this weekend at odds of $1.95 (William Hill).
Same goes with Sadio Mane of Liverpool who has a hand in four goals in his last three Premier League matches against City. Back him to score anytime of the match at odds of $3.30 (Ladbrokes)
